Photographie sépia contrecollée sur un carton gris, l'homme à mi-corps de trois quarts en vignette ovale : calotte, camail à liseré par-dessus une soutane boutonnée, croix pectorale à la chaîne, les deux mains tenant un livre ouvert. Sous l'image, la légende imprimée « LE CARDINAL ALEX. TASCHEREAU — ARCHEVÊQUE DE QUÉBEC — D'après F. De Federicis, photographe pontifical », puis la mention d'enregistrement « conformément à l'acte du Parlement du Canada, en 1898, par Albert Ferland, au Bureau du Ministre de l'Agriculture » ; un cachet à sec gaufré occupe le bas du carton.
